Hit and run involving pickup severely injures Minnesota bicyclist

Bicyclists and motor vehicles have to share the road in Minnesota to ensure everyone's safety. Even when taking all the proper safety precautions, a bicyclist is exceedingly vulnerable to severe injuries and death when involved in a crash with a car. These types of car accidents are among the most dangerous because of that vulnerability. Those who are riding a bicycle or have a loved one riding a bicycle who was involved in an accident with a motor vehicle need to know how to pursue compensation for medical expenses and other costs that will inevitably arise.

A 45-year-old man riding a bicycle was seriously hurt in a hit and run accident involving a pickup truck. According to the man's wife, he's an avid and safety-oriented bicyclist. When he was late in arriving home, she realized that something was amiss. Police arrived and informed her of the accident. According to the accident investigation, he was hit from behind by a white pickup truck. After the crash, the truck did not stop. Other people stopped to provide assistance before medical personnel arrived on the scene. The man was flown to the hospital for treatment.

He needed surgery in which a significant portion of his large intestine was removed. He had sepsis and the source was yet to be determined, so he required more surgery. He lost the function of his kidneys and has numerous fractures including his pelvis and back. He is listed in critical condition. Law enforcement is continuing its search for the driver.

When there is an accident, the first priority is to make sure that the victim receives the best possible care and is allowed time to recover. Certain realities often arise during this time. There will be medical costs, lost time at work, and the possible need for extensive care if the person is able to return home. Families can be stretched to the limit personally, financially and emotionally with an accident. In this case, the man is confronted with major injuries and a still unknown result because of this hit and run. The family needs to be knowledgeable of how to seek compensation with help from a qualified legal professional experienced in car crashes.
